2021-05-17

Message from the dean

Every year I write a message to the graduates with great care and care, because formally it is addressed to you, but really it is addressed to me. The epidemic has made you care about The Times, both physically and mentally, and have a greater respect and consideration for life than a college classroom can give you. Just because of this, let your expression and work have a different look. The humanistic care and warmth presented in your works are more gratifying to teachers than your skills and ideas.

Ceramic is invented by humans in the physical form of most close to the material of "eternal", and "eternal" in the process of our civilization, both in body and spirit is involuntary bundled together, is the "eternal" brought our understanding of "fragile", and the beauty of ceramic fascinating just reflect on the fragility of the "noble". Therefore, ceramic art has a universal aesthetic commonness and a language way beyond culture and ideology.

"The greatest regret of life is that one cannot have youth and the feeling of youth at the same time. This is Hemingway's famous saying. But I hope that you will not only have the freshness of youth, but also that you can get a taste of it in advance by reading the lives and writings of brave and creative sage and wise men whom you will follow. "Independent spirit, free thought" is not only the motto of Tsinghua University, but also the most precious quality of this era and the most important characteristics of artists. The great connotations of these 10 Chinese characters have been embodied and conveyed by you through your own talented new art forms. It is your teacher's deepest warm hope and wish for you.

Ceramic art is an ancient art, but it is also the world's most energetic and always young art, it is closely related to life, and life is what you need to learn all your life. Thank you. Teachers often look to you for a new understanding of life and hope!

Unwinding is to disassemble the life space of the snail. Eight different disassembling methods are tried for the same space and the current feeling of the creator is retained. Each dismantling is to transcribe a stretch of life into a real material existence.

“M-U-P”

The instructor | Yin Hang

The work originated from my fantasy about the formation and evolution of extraterrestrial life. The original growth pattern of extraterrestrial life is supposed to be a cluster between the growth pattern of plants and the working principle of nerve centers. Until one day they were "extraterrestrials" -- the remains of dead human astronauts who drifted to their planet. Extraterrestrial life through their own way to parse the human remains, the integration of human appearance features, showing a "human-like but not human" variant form.

Praise cold and warm, white porcelain always makes people have a wonderful imagination, contradictory self blend, experience fire and water invasion, get a dreamlike feeling in the mind. To record and express this feeling, I tried to ignite my white porcelain work. Ceramic art leaves an impression in our hearts and has some resonance. Combined with her wonderful characteristics, it is a unique and novel new way of expression to record and present it through the sound and dynamic form of media art.

The author | Fu Hang

The instructor | Zhang Xing

The way of eating in China has always been based on tableware, and the design of tableware is also mostly around the meal system. Since the outbreak, more and more restaurants and hotels have begun to implement separate dining systems. The change in dining habits will also redefine the collocation and capacity of tableware. The design comes from the ancient bronze vessel "bean", which decomposes the shape of the vessel into five parts, and its size and capacity also accord with the daily use situation. Besides satisfying use function, its modelling also can be combined to put, make fruit box, increase the aesthetic feeling of the space.

"Dongli"

The author | Guan Wenjing

The instructor | Wang Hui

"Gathering chrysanthemum under the eastern fence, leisurely looking at the southern mountains" in just ten words creates a comfortable spiritual world and a land of idolatry. I plan to integrate "weaving" elements into the work and combine the purple sand bamboo weaving technology to achieve a richer interspersion effect and three-dimensional sense, and more artistic expression of the bamboo weaving pattern in the purple sand tea ware.

"Flow"

The author | Cong Lin

The instructor | Liu Runfu

" Flow " takes tubular form as the starting point and ceramic materials as the carrier to show the fluency and three-dimensional sense of the objects through the changes of curves of different tubular shapes. Works in the same space to express the quiet, dynamic, physical changes in the tenacity and softness. The collision elements are applied into the ceramic design language, and the soft linearity is described by the rigid state of ceramics finally. The subtle emotional language comes into being with the flow of tubular shape.
